Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Centre (BDPC) is a non-government organization, established in 1992. It is the only NGO in Bangladesh, which has pioneered in the role as a facilitator, providing guidance, advice, inputs and knowledge towards capacity development of actors and institutions engaged in disaster management, and risk reduction activities.

BDPC has functional collaborative partnership with relevant government ministries, departments, UN agencies, national, regional and international NGOs. BDPC has a MOU with Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). It has a functional working relationship with UNCRD, ADRC, ADPC, NSET, SEEDS etc. The founder director of BDPC is the only Bangladeshi who has been awarded the Certificate of Distinction under UN-Sasakawa Award for Natural Disaster Reduction by ISDR in 2002.

SIDR 2007
The coastal belt of Bangladesh has been devastated by the super cyclone SIDR in the night of 15 November 2007. The disaster damaged 30 Districts and razed to the ground 4 Districts: Bagerhat, Borguna, Pirojpur, and Patuakhali. Some 4000 lives have been lost, and properties and infrastructure of billions of dollars have been destroyed. A grant of $14.42 million have been given by DFID through UNDP. UNDP is implementing the Emergency Response Efforts with this funds through 18 of their pre-qualified partner organizations, in 13 Districts. Out of the 17 NGOs, some are directly implementing the projects, while some do it through local NGOs.


This smart analytical monitoring tool is a joint effort of BDPC (domain knowledge and field expartise) & TechAnts (design, develop, deploy, and related ICT need) team. The primary objective is to ensure the best value of Emergency Response Efforts of UNDP for the people affected by the super cyclone SIDR. The specific objectives will be to check out and ensure effective 1) management of relief operations 2) management of funds and materials; 3) coordination among relevant agencies and institutions, including government structures at different levels, and 4) participation of the beneficiaries and the communities.
